What is Dental Bone Regeneration?

Bone Regeneration is an oral surgery technique used to restore the volume and density of compromised bone tissue.

In particular, a bone tissue graft is performed on the bone to be regenerated,
starting a bone regeneration process.

This intervention technique is performed to counteract the degeneration of the bone tissue which can be caused, for example, by the loss of teeth and periodontal disease and to allow the introduction of dental prostheses. Dental bone regeneration is a very common operation that can be performed by both a general dentist and a specialist, such as our Dr. Claudio Di Gioia, specialized in Implantology and Periodontology.

Types of Bone Grafting

Bone regeneration is performed using bone material which can be of different types: the bone tissue can be taken from the patient (autograft) or come from a tissue bank (heterologous bone).

In addition, bone grafting is performed using special membranes that cover the site of tooth regeneration. The function of these devices is to protect and promote the bone regeneration process, supplying the bone tissue with growth factors which improve the regenerative process.
